National Assessments & Public Examinations

Both school sites and policymakers can learn from national and international assessments. For example, PIRLS data raises questions such as - how is reading defined? What is the role of school climate in fostering academic achievement. Examine the following videos developed by international assessment agencies. Remember Trinidad and Tobago was involved in PISA 2009 and PIRLS 2006 and 2011.

  • PIRLS 2011: Factors influencing academic success
What can schools in Trinidad and Tobago do to improve their academic success of students
  • PISA 2009-How Successful Nation States use international assessment data-The case of Germany
Germany is a useful case study for Trinidad and Tobago because they also have early selection. However, the public and political response to International Assessment data has been quite different.
